From Amateur Photos to Professional Paws and back.

When Crinkle & Wrinkle came into my life, I did what any self-respecting cat parent would do—I made them an Instagram account. Thus, doubletrouble_sphynx was born. At first, it was just a fun way to share pictures of my little bald troublemakers, but over time it became something more: a visual diary of our lives together. I’m so glad I started it because now, years later, I have this wonderful collection of memories and, surprisingly, a few great connections with other Sphynx enthusiasts too.

Let me be clear, though: I am no professional photographer. I mean, I wish I had that kind of talent, but my photos are the “point, click, and hope for the best” variety. Still, Crinkle & Wrinkle, with their wrinkly charm and comical expressions, manage to shine in even the most amateur of snapshots.

One day, out of the blue, someone reached out to me. They wanted to use my cats for a project for their photography studies. I was flattered, of course, but also a little nervous. Handing over my precious duo to someone else felt like entrusting a toddler with the crown jewels. What if they escaped? What if something happened? My inner overprotective cat mom was in full panic mode.
After talking it over in detail and with my sister generously agreeing to accompany the cats, I finally gave the green light. I’ll admit, I spent the entire day on edge, imagining every possible disaster, but the results were stunning. The photos had a sleek, cool theme that brought out the elegance of Crinkle & Wrinkle in a way my phone camera never could.

That said, it was also the last time I let them participate in a photo shoot. You see, they say pets resemble their owners, and in our case, it’s spot on. I’m a homebody through and through—give me my couch, a cozy blanket, and I’m in heaven. My cats? Exactly the same. Anything outside the front door is a hard “no” for them. They’ve never been exposed to much beyond the occasional vet visit (and a stroll in our safely enclosed garden), so this photo shoot was a huge deal for them.

So it made me realize something: who am I to put them in a ‘stressful or unknown’ situation, just for the sake of a few pretty pictures? The experience was fun and the photos were gorgeous, but my cats’ happiness comes first. So now, it’s back to my good old amateur photography. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

There’s something magical about flipping back through those photos, amateurish as they may be. Each one captures a memory—a moment in time that brings a smile to my face. I’ll catch myself letting out an “aww” as I remember Crinkle as a curious kitten or Wrinkle lounging in a sunbeam like the queen she is.

Just like people, you can see their transformation: from playful kittens to mischievous teens, to the wise and quirky adults they are now. As they move into their senior years (don’t tell them I said that—they still act like kittens most days), I find myself cherishing every moment even more.

If I could make one wish, it would be that they stay with me forever. These wrinkly little bundles of joy have brought so much laughter, love, and happiness into my life, and I hope to have many more years of memories to capture—amateur photos and all. Because in the end, it’s not about the quality of the pictures; it’s about the moments they represent. Moments of joy, love, and the unmistakable magic of life with Crinkle & Wrinkle
